Autoocupació promotes the Barcelona Declaration to boost migrant entrepreneurship

July 3, 2020

  • The objective of the Barcelona Declaration is to facilitate the creation of businesses in Europe by migrants
  • The campaign on change.org aims to collect 50,000 signatures to present the petition to the European Parliament
Autoocupació promotes the campaign Barcelona Declaration: Turning migrants into job creators, with the aim of improving conditions for migrants when creating businesses in Europe, facilitating their social integration and job creation. The Declaration is a call to all actors who can contribute to removing the additional barriers that migrant entrepreneurs must overcome to start a business, such as restrictive administrative regulations, lack of knowledge of regulatory frameworks, cultural differences, lack of social capital, restrictions on access to finance, or xenophobia and racism, among others. The campaign seeks public support by collecting 50,000 signatures through the change.org platform, so that public administrations, business organizations, migrant associations, entrepreneurship promotion entities, financial institutions, and the media, among others, commit to improving the entrepreneurial ecosystem for migrants. Once the 50,000 signatures are achieved, the Declaration will be presented to the European Parliament. The Declaration is the result of a long process of collective development that began in April 2019 in Barcelona and in which more than 100 organizations from across Europe specialized in promoting immigrant entrepreneurship.
