Reempresa saves 2,000 companies from closure in Catalonia

February 13, 2019

  • Since 2011, the Catalan Reempresa Centre, an initiative of the Employers’ Association Cecot and Autoocupació, has prevented the loss of more than 6,000 jobs.
  • 9 out of 10 companies sold through the service remain active, and 76% have maintained or increased their turnover after their acquisition.
Since 2011, Reempresa, the market for buying and selling small and medium-sized businesses in Catalonia, has achieved 2,000 successful business transfers, preventing the loss of more than 6,000 jobs in Catalonia and generating an induced investment of nearly 95 million euros. Specifically, after using the service, more than 90% of the companies remain active: 87.56% of the new entrepreneurs state that they keep the company operational, and 5% have sold it again. Regarding the increase in turnover of the sold companies, the report prepared in 2018 by the Catalan Reempresa Centre shows that 76% have maintained or increased the business’s turnover after its acquisition, and 22% have done so by more than 20%. Currently, the program has more than 150 technicians distributed throughout the Catalan territory thanks to the collaboration of a wide network formed by public bodies, business organizations, and professional entities. In this regard, the president of the Employers’ Association Cecot and Reempresa, Antoni Abad, highlighted that “Reempresa is nothing more than the sum and support of an extensive network of collaborators who help any entrepreneur who wishes to sell their business to do so with the advice of one of the service’s technicians.” During the press conference presenting the results, the president of Autoocupació and director of the Catalan Reempresa Centre, Albert Colomer, explained that 40% of the new entrepreneurs were unemployed before undertaking the company acquisition process. In this sense, Colomer emphasized that “no multinational in our country is capable of generating such a large quantity of jobs and induced investment as Reempresa does through the transfer of small businesses.” The press conference included the participation of the sellers and new entrepreneurs of the companies “Entorn Qualitat” and the store “Pedro Sport”, who shared their experience with Reempresa.
